What is polypropylene spunbond nonwoven?

TNT is the acronym for the Italian Tessuto Non Tessuto, which in English translates to Nonwoven. In German it translates to vliesstoffe and in French, non tisse.

Specifically,  ASTER offers a 100% polypropylene spunbond nonwoven. Polypropylene is the principle polymer used and spunbond is the technique of production for this particular nonwoven fabric.
In brief, to produce spunbond nonwoven fabric  the primary polymer is fused at temperature, it is spun and then distributed via extrusion in a continuous thread in such a way that the threads become entangled. To finish the process, a preheated cylinder (called a calender) passes over the material bonding the fibers.  The calender also imprints the nonwoven fabric with its characteristic web pattern, normally either square or oval point.  This process renders the nonwoven softer yet more resistant at the same time.

The production outcome is rolls of synthetic nonwoven fabric with a long list of desirable  qualities and properties, which can be used in many sectors. Nonwoven can also be coupled with almost any material. It can undergo one of many diverse treatments, to optimise or completely alter the end use.

Amongst the many types of nonwovens produced, 100% polypropylene spunbond is without doubt one of the most widely used fabrics found commercially.

Nonwoven plays an often unacknowledged part in many areas of our everyday lives. It provides  a significant contribution to our businesses, manufacturing processes and daily activities.

It is difficult to provide an exhaustive list of all the properties and the variety of processing  that can be applied to this material.  100% polypropylene spunbond nonwoven can be used simply as is, or it can be processed to create products with enhanced technical specifications.
